Miss Leah Elizabeth

When this quilt arrived at my doorstep:

Me:  Is this quilt made by you?  ADORABLE

Momma:  I did not make the quilt - I'm not very handy when it comes to sewing, etc.

"It was a gift from a student and his mother before they knew Leah's diagnosis. I actually saw him and told him today about sending it to you and he was very happy! I know his Mother will be too - they actually attended Leah's service even though it was during the school day."

I adore these stories!!!!!!!

Where there is smoke?

 There is fire.

I prefer mine to be this kind

Fire Pit ready for roasting Marshmallows
Perfect for Smores

NOT THIS KIND!!

From Business Insider website

In 2007, we Houstonians were faced with the possibility that Hurricane Rita was headed our way.  It was shortly after we had welcomed the victims of Hurricane Katrina to our city.
There was fear.  Much fear.
We packed up our car with all of my scrapbooks and the large irreplaceable portraits of our boys (they were before digital photography).

Then, in 2008,  Hurricane Ike arrived.
We secured all of our momentos by wrapping in plastic and storing them in a safe spot in our house in case of roof damage or flooding.

This week, the fires here in Texas are starting to get quite close to our  home.
The smoke and ash are filling the air.

Just the other day, my son was playing in a tennis match and the ash was bouncing off their balls as they smacked the surface of the courts.

Today, school has announced that they are prohibiting outdoor activity like PE and recess.   I am glad they are because my allergies and asthma are rearing their ugly heads today.

But that is small potatoes compared to the 1,000 homes that have burnt to the ground and the 2 lives that were lost.

I look at the photo of that home burnt down and it make me wonder.
"Did they get everything that was absolutely precious to them?"

I sure hope so.

As I prepare today for my scrapbook retreat weekend.  It makes me even more aware of how important certain memorabilia is to me.  There isn't a safe enough place in the world for them!

How can you help?
I have gotten word of a few quilt shops starting some special quilt drives.  As soon as I have one that I can get behind...I will post!!!

Quilt Story (part deux)

I feel like I have been bombarding my blog with too many posts recently.

And none of them really relevant to each other!!!

But, I wanted to share that Quilt Story is featuring another quilt that I have made.

I am feeling a little extra special lately.

Especially, since the only WIP is my Hawaiian Quilted Throw Pillow right now!
I have a few quilts in my "to do" list.  The good thing is that I have fabrics and patterns chosen.  The bad?  I think they will stay in that stage for a while since school just started here!

But if you are willing to go down memory lane...

I had finished it just in time for the Blogger's Quilt Festival in May.
What fun that was to see everyone's talent!

A warm thank you to Heather and Megan for featuring my quilt!

They are very sweet!

You should check them out!  I have a few of their tutorials and patterns bookmarked for "later" projects!

Their blog and Etsy store are also exceptionally adorable too!

Catching Up

Thanks to Button's help, I was able to finish quite a few blankets the past few days.

I have been behind due to all of the recent family activities.
A few blankets arrived while we were gone and they have been steadily coming every week...which makes me sad.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Little Madaline Grace's blanket is a cutey.

Another blanket made by Grandma.

From what I can tell, she hand quilted it.

You know that I love that!

Due to the big teddy in the middle, I split her name to one side above the heart.

Then the feet and hand prints are on the opposite side surrounding the other heart.

Her momma blogs about her at Until I Get There....

The second set of prints I can share* are Mr. Wyatt's.

It is hard to believe that I have had this little guy's blanket for so long.

It was one of the first few requests I ever received.  However, it has been a long process.  First, I received the blanket.  Then, it was months before I received his prints.

Like most things, it is sometimes hard for the mommas to gather their items and sending your prints to me.

It's alot to bring all of it back.

I am, very often, receiving things in parts.
That's okay, though.

It is like the grief.

It rarely comes at a convenient time.  It rarely comes all at once.
And it is hardly predictable.

*Note: I embroider many more blankets then you actually see on my blog and FB.  On the request form, I always ask permission to share a blanket on my blog.  So do not fear that I will share something I have not received permission for!
